Springtime: the birds are singing, crocuses and snowdrops are blooming. It’s a lovely time of year – coming out of winter and embracing the possibility of new growth and abundance. We should all be feeling a new sense of well-being and energy. So how to achieve and maintain this feeling and keep ourselves healthy and contented? Using homeopathy is one way – its natural system of medicine uses tiny amounts of a potentised substance to match our physical and emotional symptom patterns.
The changing of the seasons can sometimes leave us more open to illness: the ‘flu virus' is still lingering; hay fever symptoms are beginning for some people as early as March; and there may be emotional stress's arising from difficult relationships at work.
Consult a professional homeopath for constitutional treatment to boost your natural immunity. You can also receive specific remedies to address hay fever, coughs, colds and ‘flu-like' symptoms. Homeopathy works by treating the whole person – it is a truly holistic approach to health. It can be of benefit to all age groups: babies and children, teenagers, adults and those of mature years.
How do you choose a remedy? When choosing a remedy for symptoms of ‘flu', try to match your symptoms as closely as you can to the homeopathic remedy picture – i.e. Gelsemium helps where the person feels very shivery with chills running up the spine, muscles aching, and the head & eyes feeling heavy.
A combination remedy of Aconite + Gelsemium + Eupatorium in 30c potency taken 3-4 times a day usually deals with most ‘flu-like' symptoms. Always stop taking the remedy when symptoms start to improve.
For hay fever, try a combination of Alium Cepa + Euphrasia + Sabadilla, as these three remedies cover many of the common hay fever symptoms. Take this in 30c potency as required to control itchy eyes and runny noses. Stop taking the remedy when improvement occurs, or seek help from your homeopath.
When treating babies and children, I find that a mixture of Aconite + Belladonna + Chamomilla in a 30c potency is very effective for treating minor fevers, teething pains, ear aches and sore throats. You can give the remedy as required up to six times a day. Stop giving it when symptoms improve, or seek professional help if the symptoms are of concern.
